Field operations for hydrocarbon extraction require sufficient amount of electrical power. Any process equipment, measuring units and devices integrated in oil or gas production, collection, treatment, storage and transportation system require “feed” in the twenty-four-hour mode.
There is no problem with equipment power supply on oil and gas production facilities operating for a long time or located close to communities provided with electric power or close to power lines. But development of new hydrocarbon fields is often takes place on unsettled grounds with no utilities, especially centralized power lines. In these cases the only option is to use a stand-alone power and electric equipment.
Depending on the level of energy consumption independent sources are chosen — diesel-generator sets. Mobile transformer substations are used for energy conversion. Power generation equipment capacity is enough to perform well drilling, development and then operation.
Equipment for production facility power supply is provided by service companies which provide all machines, perform commissioning works, provide diagnostics and are responsible for unit maintenance.
